The Gathering Place, in Sanford, Florida, was the setting for a memorial service on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 to celebrate the life of “Sarge” McCreight. Family, friends, members of the Board of Directors of Anthony House and the Executive Director, joined in prayer and sharing to recollect the love and service of “Sarge.”

Beckoned by his Lord to continue his life in a new dimension, on April 13, 2008, "Sarge" was regarded as “…our dear friend…” and a highly respected member of the Board of Directors, observed Lisa Hicks, the Chairman of the Board. As a further testimony and tribute to “Sarge,” Bernie Welch, Secretary of the Board offers the following reflection:

DAVID PATRICK “Sarge” McCREIGHT
R.I.P. April 13, 2008

My heart is ready, O God!

I will sing praise and make music

Awake my soul!

Psalm 108:2

He was born "David" to be a shepherd to God's people through his word and work. He got behind people with his rod and staff and he prodded them along.

He was given the title, “Sarge,” to be a kind of warrior leader for Christ.  Through his own prayer and work he showed his family and his brothers and sisters the way to God.

In his last years, he reached out to the poor and the outcast in a special way by becoming a Member of the Board of Directors at Anthony House.  He not only rallied for the beautification of Anthony House grounds, but  he came out and worked to make this project a reality.  He was always there to make his word work.

We at Anthony House our grateful to “Sarge” for his prayerful and dedicated service to our community.

Vincent de Paul, another servant of the poor, said: I stand with the poor so that God who loves the poor in a special way will look on me also and give me his blessing and care.

"Sarge," may the Lord look on you and bless you forever.  And may you watch over our prayer and our work in His name.  Amen
